TURNS IRON INTO CHARITY GOLD
11 November 2010
Nick Evans, Communications Manager of wealth management and financial services provider, Welbeck Group, turned ironman for charity, by competing in the UK leg of the international Ironman competition (hosted in Bolton) to help raise money for amputee charity, Limbpower.
Evans, a keen amateur sportsman, completed the daunting event (rated one of the world’s most gruelling as it comprises all in one go, a 3 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile marathon run), in a creditable 13 hours and 26 minutes. His efforts raised over £1,200 for Limbpower through Welbeck Group colleagues. Of his achievements, Welbeck Group Practice Principal, Greg Knight commented, “Nick’s has done fantastically well. As a company we have lots of links into sport and many keen Welbeck Group amateur sportsmen and sportswomen raise money for charity but this achievement is something special. We’re already urging him to start training for next year so he can beat the 10 hour mark.”
