Welbeck Group's budding star Ellie Stickland Unveils Knotted Gun Sculpture for World Peace Day

The Water Pistol Knotted gun sculpture designed by Paralympics’ swimmer Giles Long and painted by Ellie Stickland for anti-violence charity Knot Violence had many admirers including Amir Khan. Ellie dedication in creating the sculpture and commitment to the cause that Knot Violence stands for are a testament to the calibre of thinking behind the design.
Knot Violence promotes social change through education and communication and the knotted gun is an emblem for all that they stand for. The Charity has been running for 32 years and during that time they have enlisted five million students, teachers and sports coaches around the world- changing thousands of lives in the process.
Ellie commented that “Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for lifetime. This is what it means to me to be involved with a charity that encourages art and sport as a way to help channel our youth of today away from using guns as a means of violence”.
Knot Violence was formed after the death of Beatles legend John Lennon after he was shot and killed outside his home in New York City on the December 8, 1980. The knotted gun concept was originally created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd and placed opposite Lennon’s home with Yoko Ono in NY. Since then other replicas have been made and placed in key landmarks across the globe - including a bronze sculpture of the knotted gun outside the United Nations headquarters in New York in 1988.
At the unveiling Kofi Annan commented “the sculpture Non-Violence has not only endowed the United Nations with a cherished work of art; it has enriched the consciousness of humanity with a powerful symbol that encapsulates, in a few simple curves, the greatest prayer of man; that which asks not for victory, but for peace”.
